Water garden, a resilient public space
The Water Garden is a resilient public space typology that promotes local cultural and environmental identity by creating an open space that mitigates flooding and creates a microclimate to address the heat island effect. Located in a marginal urban area north of Los Cabos, the project extends the concept of shade to transform abandoned spaces into livable and safe public experiences.
The canopy structure provides shade, sports spaces or an amphitheater, and transforms into shelter or logistical space in disaster conditions. The design of the public space is very low cost and low maintenance. The use of endemic and xerophytic vegetation contributes to mitigate the heat island effect with little maintenance, increases the comfort of the rest spaces, and reinforces local identity.
